Former President Donald Trump has suffered from seven “huge mistakes” in 48 hours, his estranged niece Mary Trump claimed on Thursday night.

Writing in her blog on Substack, Mary Trump, a vocal critic of her uncle, outlined a series of issues she described as a “comedy of errors” that hurt Trump, the presumed 2024 GOP presidential nominee, this week, including his team accidentally subpoenaing the wrong person and failing in a third bid to delay his criminal hush money trial in New York.

She also took aim at prominent “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) figures making “headlines for all the wrong reasons.”

Newsweek has reached out to Trump’s team for comment via email.

The “huge mistakes” that Mary Trump highlighted in her blog post are as follows:

Subpoenaing the Wrong Person

A filing from Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office on Tuesday revealed that lawyers for the former president accidentally sent a subpoena to the wrong individual.

Attorneys in Trump’s hush money case wanted to subpoena Jeremy Rosenberg, who was a supervising investigator in the Manhattan district attorney’s office, as they sought files related to Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen.

However, they sent documents to a different Jeremy Rosenberg who lived in Brooklyn. The court filing revealed that the recipient responded by saying, “I don’t have any files for you” and said he was keeping the $15 sent to him to cover document postage fees.

Trump is scheduled to go to trial on Monday, April 15 after he was indicted last year on 34 counts of falsifying business records in relation to hush money payments made to Stormy Daniels, a former adult entertainment actress, ahead of the 2016 presidential election to keep silent about an alleged affair they had in 2006. Trump has denied all wrongdoing and has denied ever having an affair with Daniels.

GETTY

Blocking FISA Bill

The former president called on his supporters to “kill” the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) bill on Wednesday. The bill aims to reauthorize the surveillance program and includes a series of reforms meant to address civil liberties concerns raised by critics.

“Kill FISA, it was illegally used against me, and many others. They spied on my campaign,” Trump alleged in a post on Truth Social, his social media platform.

In Congress, 19 conservatives joined Democrats to torpedo House Speaker Mike Johnson’s proposal in a 119-228 vote.

Mary Trump wrote on her blog that her uncle had “gotten his wires crossed.”

She added: “But here’s the kicker: Donald seems to have gotten his wires crossed. The legislation being considered by Congress is FISA Section 702. Donald meant to rail against FISA Title 1, which concerns FBI investigations of American citizens. Instead, Section 702 ‘allows warrantless surveillance of foreigners outside the U.S. — people who are not protected by the Fourth Amendment.'”

“Crucially, ‘American citizens and people within the United States cannot be targeted’ under the bill.”

Former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe criticized Trump’s FISA claim, saying on Thursday there was “no truth or accuracy” in his post.

Speaking on CNN Newsroom, McCabe suggested that the former president could be referencing the FBI getting a warrant to spy on his 2016 campaign adviser, Carter Page, as part of its Russia investigation.

“We now know there were many mistakes in that FISA, those are all regrettable, but that is not Section 702, totally different thing here,” he said during his interview appearance.

Attacks on Judge Merchan’s Daughter

Trump took to Truth Social on Thursday where he posted a clip of Fox News legal analyst Gregg Jarret saying that Loren Merchan, the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing Trump’s hush money case, has a “vested interest” in the trial because she works for a Democratic political consulting firm.

On April 1, Judge Merchan expanded a gag order on Trump to include his family after a series of posts from the former president attacked her.

“Now Judge Merchan will have to decide whether Donald’s posting this clip constitutes a violation of his gag order,” Mary Trump wrote on her blog.

In a statement provided to Newsweek on April 1, Steven Cheung, Trump’s communications director, defended Trump’s attacks on Merchan’s daughter.

Cheung said Merchan “has a clear conflict, and him continuing to be involved in this Crooked Joe Biden-directed Witch Hunt is a complete violation of applicable rules, regulations, and ethics.”

He added: “Authentic Campaigns, and thus the judge’s daughter, is actively making money from this sham attack against President Trump, rendering Judge Merchan conflicted out. The judge should do the right thing and immediately recuse himself in order to show the American people that the Democrats have not destroyed our justice system completely.”

John Eastman Rebuked by Bar Investigators

John Eastman, accused of efforts to help overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election on Trump’s behalf, was ripped by California bar investigators on Wednesday for submitting letters from GOP Representatives Matt Gaetz of Florida and Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia in a bid to keep his law license.

State Bar Court Judge Yvette Roland ruled in March that Eastman violated ethics rules when advancing Trump’s unfounded claims of widespread voter fraud during the 2020 election. He is suspended from practicing law pending a ruling from California’s Supreme Court.

“In support of his motion, [Eastman] has chosen to submit declarations of certain of his clients that, despite the irrelevance of this point to respondent’s arguments, assert their belief that the disciplinary charges in this matter have no merit,” the bar investigators said.

Mary Trump wrote: “Because he has no sense of the absurdity of it all, Eastman submitted declarations by Greene and Gaetz, who not only urged the court to allow Eastman to continue his representation, but also asserted their belief that the disciplinary charges had no merit.”

Candidate Under Pressure Over Tax Returns

Mary Trump also criticized her uncle over his “tremendous skill when it comes to one thing—picking political losers.”

The former president has endorsed Mark Robinson to be North Carolina’s governor, but bankruptcy records obtained by ABC News found that he failed to file his income taxes for five consecutive years, starting from 1998.

“This is old news recycled by the Democrats and their allies in the press to distract the voters,” Robinson’s campaign communications director Mike Lonergan said in a statement to Newsweek.

“Lt. Governor Robinson has made no secret about the financial challenges in his past. As a former factory worker who lost his job due to NAFTA and had his home foreclosed and was even forced into bankruptcy, the Lt. Governor has overcome many challenges— financial and others—in his past. He’s lived the struggles that families across North Carolina are facing every day.

“North Carolinians are ready for a governor who will be focused on solutions to their problems—not another career politician climbing the ladder from office to office,” he added.

Lawyers Fail To Delay Trial

On Wednesday, lawyers for Trump lost their third attempt in a week to delay his hush money trial.

His attorneys wanted the case delayed until a full panel of appellate court judges could hear arguments on lifting or modifying the gag order imposed on him by Judge Merchan.

The latest motion, however, was dismissed by Associate Justice Ellen Gesmer for the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of New York.

“Donald’s election interference hush money trial is scheduled to begin in New York on April 15 and he is desperate to delay it but so far his numerous attempts have failed. The latest was no exception,” Mary Trump wrote. “A single appellate judge, Ellen Gesmer, promptly rejected Donald’s latest request to postpone, leaving Donald few options. While he can ask the full panel of five appellate court judges to hear his motion, it’s nearly impossible the for the court to step in on time before the Monday trial start date. See you in court, Donald.”

Greene and the Eclipse

Mary Trump also listed Greene’s posts on X, formerly Twitter, as the seventh mistake associated with Trump, despite the Georgia Republican’s posts being from last Friday.

A staunch Trump ally, the congresswoman was ridiculed and hit with a community note over her posts about Monday’s solar eclipse.

Greene wrote that God was sending “strong signs to tell us to repent.”

“Earthquakes happen all the time, all around the world,” the community note read. “Eclipses are not random, they follow strict mathematical rules and can be predicted centuries before they happen. NASA has a site listing eclipses until the year 3000.”

Last Friday, a 4.8 magnitude earthquake hit Whitehouse Station, part of Readington Township, in New Jersey, and rattled parts of the Northeast. Shaking was felt throughout the region, including New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania and as far as Maine.

During a Tuesday interview with Steve Bannon on the War Room podcast, Greene responded to the criticism and said: “They most recently mocked my faith and made fun of me [for] saying that God is sending us a sign to repent. I really don’t care what they mock me and make fun of me about. We’re winning the information war, Steve, because we’re telling the truth.”
