A 28-year-old professional from New York City has shared an insider tip for finding job opportunities within the first 24 hours of their listing.

In a video on TikTok with more than 1 million views, Marni (@ohmarni) shared her savvy tech strategy to maximize job search efficiency. “I don’t think I ever mentioned this, but if you don’t have nepotism or a network when searching for a job, the next best thing you do have is time,” Marni said in her now-viral video.

In the short clip, she lifted the veil on a Google search method that helps you quickly find job postings as early as possible, offering applicants a potential edge in a competitive job market.

“My profession is in tech and coding, so putting code in the search bar made a lot of sense. I even use it when I shop,” Marni, who did not want to give her surname, told Newsweek.

Using Google search tools, Marni showed how you can type certain terms to narrow down the results. Firstly, she whittles down the websites that the search returns, asking for only results from sites that companies use to post job openings, like Greenhouse or Lever.

You do this by writing: site:greenhouse | site:lever.co to narrow down the sites. After this, Marni added the job title; for example, “data analyst.” Here, you can also add any additional essential items, such as location.

Search examples:

site:websitehere | site:websiteherejob title

site:greenhouse.io | site:lever.co | site:myworkdayjobs.comdata analyst” AND “remote

To find the newest listings, you can tell Google to show only the jobs posted in the last 24 hours, using the filter tool.

“This tip is so good because you only create the search once and refresh it each day. A good portion of the job search is really cutting through the noise and finding the listings that you want to see—and being able to apply in a timely manner,” Marni added.

“This is so helpful, thank you,” posted Tyler, while Garcon added: “God send, thank you.” Brittany agreed and wrote: “Literal gold thank you!”

Marni was thrilled to see how many people the simple Google tip was helping. She said: “I was really happy it blew up and how it possibly helped improve the job search for so many people! We definitely got to help each other out… It’s rough out here!”
