A dog owner was hilariously forced to take extreme action after his golden retriever refused to go home.
In a video posted to TikTok by patrick.ryan22, a dog can be seen staging something of a sit-down protest, playing dead and refusing to budge an inch, as its owner attempts to leave.
According to the caption accompanying the clip, the footage was filmed outside a brewery somewhere in the U.S. The account belongs to Patrick Ryan, who describes himself as a retired marine living in Florida.
“This puppy didn’t want his day at the brewery to end,” the caption reads. You can watch the video here.
With the golden refusing to move, the dog owner is ultimately forced into a drastic response that left those watching and filming the incident in hysterics.
At the time of writing the clip showcasing the random act of disobedience had been watched over 52.4 million times.
Golden retrievers are widely regarded as being among the smartest and most trainable breed of dogs. Writing for the American Kennel Club, Stephanie Gibeault, a certified professional dog trainer and expert on animal behavior, described them as “very trainable and eager to please.
“Golden Retrievers can be silly and fun, but don’t underestimate their brainpower,” she said.
There is a chance that the dog in this particular video is merely going through a phase. It’s actually common for adolescent dogs to go through a stage of rebellion not entirely dissimilar to the one faced by parents with teenage kids.
A study published in Biology Letters saw researchers monitor the progress of 70 female German shepherds, golden retrievers and Labrador retrievers being raised as potential guide dogs to see how puberty impacted their behavior.
They found that, much like teenagers, the adolescent dogs exhibited disobedient and even rebellious behavior.
Watching patrick.ryan22’s video in this context gives the golden retriever’s actions a whole new meaning: they are out at the party, having a good time and don’t want it to end.
Unfortunately, in this instance, their owner was not willing to take no for an answer. In the video, the pet owner can be seen picking his canine up and walking off with him.
The retriever, for their part, continues to play dead even as they walk off into the distance, evidently eager to remain rebellious until the end.

But while the dog’s actions may be linked to adolescence, they were all too familiar to many fellow golden retriever owners watching the clip.
“It’s always a golden retriever,” one viewer wrote. “You’re not a golden retriever owner till you’ve picked up a 95 lb dog up off the pavement and carried it like a toddler on your hip,” a second commented.
A third said: “My golden retriever did this all the time especially at the beach,” while a fourth added: “As a former golden owner this is such a mixture of emotions…you’re angry, you’re laughing, you’re embarrassed but it’s a core memory.”
