A mom-of-two has become a surrogate to help other couples have babies, after saying she “missed” pregnancy and labor.
Samantha Mathews, who posts about her experiences on Instagram under @Wearedanandsam, explained how after having a son and then a daughter, she became a surrogate to two couples.
She deliberately filmed the clip in the style of TikTok comedian Elyse Myers.
Mathews told Newsweek she had healthy, relatively easy pregnancies with her own children, so decided to help other couples.
“I had smooth pregnancies and labors so I thought why not help someone else become a mama?” she said. “And thankfully, it wasn’t difficult to give back the baby because I knew going into the journey that the baby wasn’t mine to begin with! Baby was always theirs.”
“How did I become pregnant with a baby that isn’t my husband’s? That’s a great question, I’d love to tell you. To be fair, it’s not mine either,” she says at the start of the video.
“In 2018, I birthed our daughter. We had the one-to-one ratio—we were good, we were done having kids. But oddly enough I missed labor. So I thought why not do it for someone else?”
In 2020, Mathews, who is from Missouri, met a couple on Facebook who asked her to be a surrogate. Miraculously, however, the woman became pregnant naturally.
In the video, she continues: “So I thought—OK let’s do it again. July 2021—we met a couple on Instagram who said can you help us have our baby? And I said yes I can help you have your baby. In July 2022, I birthed their child.
“And I thought, let’s do it again. This time hundreds applied through an agency to match with us… We picked one couple. This past November we flew to Florida, the husband’s sperm and the wife’s egg together, the embryo was inserted into my uterus. I’m 10 weeks pregnant.”
In the comments, people have praised Mathews for telling her story with humor. “I swear I love watching your journeys, you are so funny. Keep up the great work my fellow surrosister,” one person wrote.

Surrogacy is when a woman carries a baby for a couple who are unable to conceive or carry a child themselves for medical or physical reasons. Gestational surrogacy—which occurs when an embryo created with the egg of an intended mother and sperm of an intended father is inserted into the uterus of a gestational carrier—is the most common type of surrogacy in the United States.
Compensated surrogacy, in which the carrier is paid, is not legal in Michigan, Nebraska, and Louisiana.
