Life with a puppy can be exciting—and chaotic—because every day brings new experiences for them to take in. Rolo the spaniel pup has learned to grapple with grass and mud, but then came the exhilarating moment he got to feel sand for the first time, and it was a huge success.

Dog owner Jess Craig has certainly had her hands full since she got Rolo, who is now 5 months old, and she’s loved witnessing him make so many significant memories already. So far, he’s managed to master the staircase, car rides, and even bath time in the sink, but in April, it was finally time for him to discover sand.

During an impromptu trip to the beach, Craig, from Southampton, United Kingdom, let Rolo off leash in the sand and his excitement couldn’t have been clearer. The pup instantly started running around in circles and letting the dust surround him, as Craig told Newsweek that his reaction “was priceless.”

She said: “It was quite a spontaneous trip as my brother had the day off and asked if I wanted to go to the beach with the dogs. We live on the coast but not near a sandy beach, so this seemed like the perfect opportunity to let Rolo experience the sand before the main beaches close to dogs for the summer.”

Rolo the spaniel got to visit the beach for the first time and experience sand. Rolo has delighted many TikTok users with his excitable reaction to his first ever beach trip.

After seeing how happy he was, there’s no doubt there will be many more trips to the beach in Bournemouth for Rolo on the horizon.

Just like people, many dogs love going to the beach and it’s a fun way for them to experience a new environment while still getting plenty of exercise. Not only is the sand nice and soft on their paws, but the American Kennel Club suggests that it’s the perfect terrain for any pup who loves to dig.

Rather than digging up your freshly laid flowers and making a mess in your yard, a sandy beach is the perfect spot for an investigative dog to create a big hole without causing mayhem. But the AKC notes that it’s important they don’t try and eat any sand because that can be quite dangerous.

Beachgoers should remember to keep their dog hydrated, take plenty of clean, fresh water with them, and avoid the sand when it’s hot as it can burn the dog’s paws. Coastal trips can be a great experience for any dog, but they should remain safe at all times.

After witnessing the moment Rolo got to feel sand for the first time, Craig was so pleased that it had been recorded, and she couldn’t wait to share it on TikTok (@jcraaaig8). Since the clip was posted on April 14, it has delighted and amused plenty of social media users, already gaining more than 439,700 views and over 30,600 likes so far.

Craig told Newsweek: “I wanted to share the video on TikTok, and it just went crazy. So many people said that seeing him so happy brought them joy too, and it was just really lovely.”

There’s no doubt that the footage captured “the most excited baby Rolo” at the time, and he’s already desperate to get back to his new favorite place.

Rolo’s reaction has made him quite the TikTok sensation, and the clip has already received over 140 comments so far. One person responded: “Turbo mode!”

Another TikTok user wrote: “Just wait until he discovers snow! They really are the funniest breed.”

A third fan added: “Spaniel zoomies are so precious.”
