Reuters exclusively reported that Tesla has begun producing the Model Y in Shanghai with the intention to sell it in Canada this year, marking the first time it will ship cars to North America from China. Because of the cheaper pricing on the new version of the Model Y, both the entry-level version of the vehicle and a more expensive upgrade qualify for subsidies under the Canadian government’s EV support package.

Market Impact

The move would connect Tesla’s (TSLA.O) biggest and most cost-efficient factory in the world to North America, its largest market. The Model Y is the electric vehicle (EV) maker’s best-selling model globally.
