“Glad Place,” Emily Henry’s fourth grownup romance debuts at No. 1 on the Unique fiction listing following sturdy critiques within the American press (it’s tempting, although presumably unkind, to consider her because the pondering lady’s Colleen Hoover). “Glad Place” is claimed to be edgier than Henry’s earlier outings, following three girlfriends — every with a secret, natch — over the course of 1 week.

One other debut on the Unique fiction listing is “Within the Lives of Puppets,” by T.J. Klune (at No. 7) with a science-fiction story excellent for our AI-focused instances, about three robots — an android, a nurse machine and a small vacuum — and one human.

In non-fiction, the week’s publishing success story is “Outsider,” Ottawa-based Brett Popplewell’s story of an aged superathlete named Dag Aabye and his life within the distant reaches of British Columbia. It debuted final week at No. 8 on the Canadian listing. This week it has risen to No. 3 on the Unique listing and No. 1 on the Canadian listing.
