As we approach the silly season and the end of another working week, there would be no shame in admitting a struggle in finishing today’s Wordle.

There will be some days harder than others for regular players of the word puzzle, but do not fear because Newsweek has put together some top tips to help you out.

Even Wordle’s creator, Josh Wardle, admitted to struggling with the word quiz that he invented for his partner who loved word games and spelling bees.

“Well, I did create Wordle and I’m not very good at it, so there’s your answer! I’m afraid I’m not really the best,” he previously told Newsweek. “[My partner] and I play it on the couch together each morning. She will consistently get it in three goes, which is way, way better than I can ever hope to achieve. I normally need at least four or five attempts.”

His global hit requires players to guess a new five-letter word every day, in six guesses or less. Players are helped with colored tiles that indicate whether they are on the right track or not.

Green tiles show you got the letter right, while a yellow tile means the letter appears in the word but is just in the wrong spot. Finally, a gray tile means that letter does not appear in the word at all.

Despite not being the best at his own invention, Wardle was not short of tips on how to play Wordle well.

He suggested it can be more useful to get the incorrect gray tiles than the ones that actually feature in the word of the day, because that helps you eliminate a lot of possibilities.

“One thing I will say is that a lot of people tend to think that the game is just about finding those green and gold letters. If you get those, then you theoretically have the information you need, but you don’t want to get too hung up on that,” Wardle explained.

“Even when you have most of the letters, it’s still worth using a couple of tires to just narrow down the options further. It’s often just as important to learn what letters aren’t in a word. That information can actually be more powerful in a lot of ways, and you don’t necessarily realize it at first.”
