The moment a 9-month-old giant schnauzer named Duke met a miniature schnauzer has taken the internet by storm after the delightful encounter was caught on camera.

Owners Vanessa Rodriguez and Andy Segura, who live in Los Angeles, were astonished by the heartwarming interaction between their beloved Duke and the miniature counterpart.

“Although Duke is very friendly, we had no idea Duke would have this reaction to meeting the mini schnauzer. Watching the two schnauzers interact was very heartwarming. It’s as if they knew each other,” Rodriguez told Newsweek.

In a video posted on TikTok with more than 2.5 million views, the two dogs have an adorable encounter in a sweet example of different types of the iconic breed.

The schnauzer is a German dog breed that comes in three sizes: miniature, standard, and giant. Despite similar physical characertistics like the iconic eyebrows and beard, they are actually three distinct AKC-recognized breeds with independent standards.

A miniature schnauzer generally weighs between 11 and 19 pounds, while the giant counterpart like Duke weights up to 95 pounds and stands at a huge 27.5 inches at the shoulder.

Duke’s first encounter with another schnauzer was a special moment for his owners, who quickly acted to film the meeting.

“I have always enjoyed making videos about everything in general. I lost my mom about five years ago, and her departure left me feeling very empty inside. The day we got Duke, it was healing to my soul,” Rodriguez explained.

“Giant Schnauzers are very unique in my area since there are none that we’ve seen. I decided to upload the video because it showed a difference between the sizes, but their interactions are the same. Duke acts like a mini; he’s just 10 times bigger and 10 times stronger. He is a joy to have. We had no idea how much attention this one video would have.”

In the video, the dogs take part in the classic “play bow” indicating interest in each other, and even start to play a little.

Viewers were quick to share their reactions to the encounter.

One viewer joked: “He looking at him like ‘my god what did they do to you brother YOU’VE SHRUNKEN!'”

Another user expressed surprise and said: “Wow, didn’t know Schnauzers came that tiny omg.”

The comments also included compliments for Duke, including: “Duke is one handsome fella!”

While Lovelydayday playfully referred to the mini schnauzer a “distant cousin.”
