Comedian Taylor Tomlinson has been revealed as the host to front CBS’ new late-night show After Midnight.

The news broke Wednesday evening during The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, who has signed on as an executive producer for the new show.

After Midnight is set to launch in early 2024, taking the 12.35 a.m. slot and follows Comedy Central’s @midnight, which ran between 2013 and 2017. The show will replace The Late Late Show with James Corden.

So Who is Taylor Tomlinson?

Netflix viewers might recognize Tomlinson from her two comedy specials on the platform, Look At You and Quarter Life Crisis.

She wrote and starred in both.

Quarter-Life Crisis was released just before the 2020 pandemic started and was met with positive reviews, helping her to grow in popularity.

The synopsis, according to IMDb for the special, reads: “She’s halfway through her 20s, and she’s over it. Too old to party, too young to settle down, comedian Taylor Tomlinson takes aim at her life choices.”

The comedian was born and raised in California and was a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2015.

She has amassed a huge social media following, with 2.5 million followers on TikTok and 1.4 million on Instagram.

What is After Midnight?

After Midnight is based on @Midnight, which followed on from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report and ran between October 2013 and August 2017.

The show was a panel series in which host Chris Hardwick interacted with guest comedians. Notable names in comedy that appeared on the show include Arden Myrin, Steve Agee and Doug Benson.

As previously mentioned, Colbert has signed on as executive producer, as has the president of Spartina Industries, Carrie Byalick; executive producer at The Late Show, Tom Purcell; Evelyn McGee Colbert and James Dixon of Dixon Talent.

The Spartina team is joined by executive producers Joe Farrell, Mike Farah, Whitney Hodack, and Henry R. Muñoz III from Funny Or Die. Jason U. Nadler of Serious Business, who co-created @midnight is also an executive producer.

Jack Martin, showrunner of all four seasons of @midnight, will act as co-showrunner alongside Eric Pierce, who has exec-produced on CBS’ The Challenge: USA and The Wheel.

Tomlinson is one of many female comedians to host a late-night show.

Fans are excited to see the comedian in the regular slot. However, the history of some female-fronted shows is shaky.

A Little Late With Lilly Singh was canceled after two seasons, running from 2019 until 2021.

The Rundown with Robin Thede ran for 17 episodes between 2017 and 2018, with Ziwe, an American satirical late-night talk show hosted and executive produced by comedian Ziwe Fumudoh, only running for two seasons between 2021 and 2022.

However, there have been several long runners that have helped pave the way for Tomlinson.

Comedian Chelsea Handler hosted her late-night E! talk show Chelsea Lately for years. It ran from 2007 to 2014, making it one of the longest-running shows of the genre hosted by a woman.

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, the American late-night talk and news satire program, ran for six years on TBS from 2016 to 2022

The Amber Ruffin Show on Peacock first aired in 2020, and although it has not been canceled, no new episodes have aired since December 2022.
