With the year drawing to a close, Wordle shows few signs of slowing down.

What started out as a game built by New York-based software engineer Josh Wardle for him and his “partner to enjoy” quickly became a viral sensation, with millions of daily users seeking to get their puzzle fix.

In January 2022, Wordle had over 2 million players and was bought by The New York Times for an undisclosed seven-figure sum.

The beauty of Wordle lies in its simplicity. Players get six attempts to guess a five-letter word.

After each guess, the letters light up, giving you an indication of how accurate you were. If a letter goes green, it is both in the word, and in the right place. Yellow means the letter features, but not where you put it, while gray tells you that it’s not in the word at all.

Professor Catherine Loveday, a cognitive neuroscience expert at the University of Westminster in the U.K., previously told Newsweek that there are two things in particular that influence your Wordle play style.

First off is your “cognitive profile”—also known as “working memory”—which determines how quickly you can process information.

“So, someone with good working memory will find Wordle easier, although someone with poorer working memory could get around this by using pen and paper to work through the alternatives,” she said.

Professor Loveday added that the second is your “cognitive style,” which includes everything from your personality to your memories. However, with Wordle being a language-based game, your vocabulary also plays a big part.

If you are struggling with today’s puzzle, Newsweek has compiled some hints and tips to help get you over the line. The answer will be revealed at the end of this article, so scroll with caution if you want to figure it out for yourself.
