Woman Adopts Chihuahua—Had No Idea What Would Happen Once They Got Home

A pet owner has revealed how she ended up getting way more than she bargained for after adopting a Chihuahua.

In a video posted to TikTok under the handle staceeeysmom, a woman posting as Faith from East Oregon showed what happened after she answered an advert on Craigslist offering an “adorable female Chihuahua puppy.” In the ad, Stacey the dog was described as a “sweetheart who loves to love & cuddle.” She sounded perfect. Almost too perfect, in fact.

The post went on to note that unspecified “circumstances” meant her previous owner could no longer keep her. Vague as that might have been Faith was only too happy to adopt with the pair becoming “bestie girls.”

However, she soon discovered that Stacey was harboring a secret: she was pregnant with puppies. Eventually one “Chihuahua puppy” became one Chihuahua mama and five puppies—four boys and one girl.

Though Stacey’s previous owner would have been better off being honest about her condition and potentially surrendering her to a shelter rather than putting her on Craigslist, the unfortunate reality is that she might well have struggled to find a home.

In 2015, a study put together on Priceonomics using adoption data from the rescue animal listings website Petfinder found that while 95 percent of puppies in shelters end up being rehomed, that percentage drops to 75.5 percent among adult dogs.

It’s entirely conceivable that, in the shelter system, Stacey might have watched as each of her pups departed to new forever families, leaving her behind.

However, as the video shared to TikTok by staceeeysmom shows, she lucked out that day Faith answered that Craigslist advert. Not only did she and her partner go on to nurse Stacey through the pregnancy, they also helped raise her puppies through those first few months.

Eventually, they decided to keep one of the pups for themselves, naming her Coco, to keep Stacey company. The four others remain close by too, having been adopted by some of Faith’s friends. It’s been four years now since Faith answered that Craigslist advert and all six dogs remain the best of friends and even better than that, close family.

It’s a story that garnered a huge response on TikTok, with viewers delighted at how things turned out for everybody involved.

“This is so freaking cute,” one user wrote. “I’m so glad they all get to hang out.” Another user said: “I’m so glad mama is okay after all that, the babies are soooo cute.”

Responding in the comments, Faith said: “It turned out the best” and also revealed: “They [the dogs] have sleepovers all the time if we go out of town, or we bring them for play dates.”

Faith may have got more than she bargained for when she answered that Craigslist ad, but she wouldn’t change it for the world.
